UDIT
FELSZEGHY
S O P R A N O
Judit Felszeghy, soprano, was trained in the Kodály method in Budapest, Hungary. She started her musical education on the piano and the recorder, and from the age of 6 she sang in various choir schools. Later on she sang in prominent youth choirs and was a soloist in various small groups, always feeling most at home with Mediaeval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical repertoire. She is also inspired by ancient traditional songs. Judit graduated in singing from the Leo Weiner College of Music in Budapest with distinction. She studied with famous coloratura sopranos: Prof. Sylvia Geszty, Prof. Krisztina Laki and Prof. Csilla Ötvös in Vienna and in Budapest. In England she feels very lucky to have had regular lessons with one of her early music singing idols, Dame Emma Kirkby. With Emma's guidance and coaching Judit made her first solo CD, the "Faces". Between 2016-2017 Judit had lessons with Christine Cairns, and recently, in 2020, Judit started having singing lessons with Alison Roddy. With her guidance and mentoring, Judit is looking forward to exploring the next stage of her career post-Covid times.
Judit’s instrument – her soprano voice - has a pure natural clarity that is combined with the art of virtuosity. Her coloratura passages are crystal-clear and precise - like a string of pearls. Her tone is beautifully warm and her performance is full of love and passion. Judit strives for excellence and can delight any audience. Her devotion, focus, preparation and musicality is appreciated by conductors and musician colleagues alike.
As a singer, she is a “human anti-depressant”, as some people call her, as her voice deeply touches her audience's heart.
Judit moved to the UK in 2009 and since then has been building a growing reputation as a professional soloist and a singing teacher. She regularly sings solos for Fiori Musicali early music group, and performs as a soloist for various music societies around Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Recent engagements she is very proud of include: a concert with the Orchestra of St John's under the baton of John Lubbock in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge; a UK tour with the Baha'i composer, Richard Leigh who wrote his new CD, Daystar specifically for Judit's voice; a Handel concert with Leeds Baroque under the baton of Peter Holman and, singing Haydn’s St Cecilia Mass with Fiori Musicali with the lead of Penelope Rapson in London, at the Priory Church of St John, singing with the Tree of Love quartet in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice for their online Christmas service.
Judit is the co-founder and the soprano soloist of the internationally acclaimed early music groups, Ensemble Marquise and Artistocrats. They have been working together since 2004 and have become like a musical family.
Judit has been invited to perform as a soloist and also with her ensembles at renowned festivals. She has appeared and gained success in prestigious concert halls, historic houses and stately homes in Hungary, the UK (including London) and other countries of Europe. For a full list of performances and engagements see her website: www.juditfelszeghy.co.uk and www.ensemblemarquise.com
Besides music she is highly interested in languages. Apart from being fluent in English and Hungarian, she obtained her degree at ELTE University in Budapest where she studied Russian language, literature and culture. She also studied German and Italian.
In the past couple of years Judit has been drawn to modalities of wellbeing and embodied practices that bring physical, mental and spiritual balance in a natural and holistic way to her singing, performing and everyday life.
In the strange times of the pandemic this has enabled her to channel her skills and energy somewhere where the magic of singing is most needed. She set up online international groups called “Opera Breathing exercises” to help ease symptoms of long Covid sufferers, at the beginning of 2021.
In her weekly groups, Judit has been sharing easy opera breathing exercises, some fun singing, anxiety reducing tools and other useful techniques that empower people to breathe more freely and feel more in control of their health and wellbeing.
